Artist Statement
Stephanie Say
My art is an invitation—to pause, to feel, and to connect. As an intuitive abstract painter, I explore the landscapes of both the natural world and the human experience. My work is deeply influenced by my roles as a mental health therapist and Decision Coach, weaving together emotion, insight, and a sense of peace.
I begin each piece with an acrylic base, layering oil paint and cold wax to create depth and texture. Using a subtractive process, I carve away at the surface, revealing hidden layers beneath. This practice feels like an excavation, unearthing moments of clarity and connection. The process mirrors the therapeutic journey—peeling back layers, embracing what emerges, and finding beauty in the unexpected.
Trees and natural landscapes often find their way into my work, a nod to my love of hiking and the solace I find in nature. My abstract landscapes are not just about what we see but how we feel when surrounded by the quiet wisdom of the woods. The organic shapes and rich tones are meant to evoke a sense of grounding and reflection, offering a space for stillness amid life’s noise.
At its core, my art is about connection—the quiet, powerful exchange between the viewer, the work, and the stories held within. I hope to create moments that are deeply felt, encouraging reflection, provoking thought, and offering a sense of feeling truly understood.
